Adding brush depth using macros in Affinity Photo
Brush depth
Brushes can be applied and they are flat, but you can make them 3D by adding layer effects bevels but you can extend it even more with use of projections and layers and also combining with macros
You can create a source set of brush strokes in Affinity Photo on a transparent new layer. You can then record duplication of the layer, projection and also adding bevels and then rasterization of that layer and then repeating that a number of times and storing as a macro (and in a library). You can then run that macro again and again to build a more complex design. You can add into the mix additional brush strokes (not in the macro though as that would be used each and every time) and also effects such as deform etc (which can be added into the macro). You can create these and build up zillions of depth designs with layers and blends to create the most amazing backgrounds as well as textures and overlays etc. This can be done with any set of brushes which can be varied as well in terms of size etc
